Skinny guys looking to build muscle and gain weight are highly susceptible to the persuasive advertising that looms all over the supplement industry. Supplement companies are making a lot of money because they know that with persuasive sales copy, a ripped bodybuilder endorsing their product and a bunch of BS scientific claims they can pretty much sell you guys anything. I am not against the supplement industry as a whole, but I think that most supplements are a complete waste of time and money. If you asked me what supplements actually worked to help you build lean muscle mass and put on weight the list would be very short. In most cases you are always better off spending that added money on whole foods rich with protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. These foods should always be the foundation of your muscle building needs.
While most supplements are geared towards gaining muscle or losing fat I want to get into a third kind of supplement that has gained a lot of popularity over the years thanks to a popular pill called the CB1 weight gain pill. CB1 weight gain pills were one of the 1st weight gain pills to be heavily marketed. I remember seeing CB-1 weight gain pills for sale at GNC a few years ago, and you will see it advertised all over the internet.
So what exactly is a weight gain pill? How is a weight gain pill different than a muscle-building pill? Well it pretty much just comes down to marketing. When you are a supplement company you need to figure out who your target market is, so by them calling their product a “weight gain pill” they will appeal to all of the naturally skinny guys and ectomorphs. Essentially a weight gain pill is a muscle-building pill but CB 1 has an interesting side effect that I want to get into.
The CB-1 weight gain pills have a fancy proprietary blend that is suppose to be an appetite stimulant. Basically you take this fancy weight gain pill and you eat like a machine… We all know that if you want to gain weight fast you need to consume a calorie surplus – so that’s what CB-1 claims it will allow you to do.
Let me start this explanation off by saying that I think CB-1 weight gain pills and all other weight gain pills for men are completely unnecessary. If you look at the ingredient profile for CB-1 weight gain pills they are nothing more than some vitamins and minerals and a fancy proprietary blend that will magically make you eat more. Does this seem like a good use of 50 dollars to you? I certainly hope not. You are essentially paying for zinc, vitamin D and a bunch of herbs and spices that I have never heard of.
So weight gain pills are suppose to increase your appetite and you should spend 50 dollars of your hard earned money each month on them just so you can eat a few more calories? Talk about a waste of money! Let me break this down for you so you don’t get scammed into buying any weight gain pills.
If you are having a hard time consuming a calorie surplus as an ectomorph you need to workout with more intensity and perform more compound exercises – simple as that! If your workout intensity is where it should be and you are performing highly intense 1-hour workouts at least 5 times a week you should literally be eating like a horse.
I remember when I was going through my radical body transformation in college and just after college and I was working out everyday. I was literally starving! I would eat a large meal and I would be hungry about 30 minutes later. As an ectomorph you have a naturally fast metabolism so you should have no problem eating a calorie surplus.
Any kinds of weight gaining pills are completely unnecessary. The 50 dollars you spend per month to stay on CB -1 weight gain pills could be used to literally purchase about 10 lbs of chicken breasts. What do you think will help you gain more muscle mass. An overpriced pill filled with a proprietary blend full of minerals and some vitamins or 10 lbs of lean protein? Hopefully you realize that eating the 10 lbs of chicken will have a much better effect on your weight gain aspirations.
So that is my stance on weight gain pills guys. You simply don’t need them! I really think that they are a waste of money. If you want to buy 50 dollars worth of supplements every single month there are far better ways to do this.
So Do Any Weight Gain Pills Work?
I am not a fan of overpriced weight gain pills that increase your appetite, but I am a fan of amino acids, L glutamine and muscle building non-essential amino acids. I take highly concentrated amino acids pills and they only set me back about 20 dollars a month. Although these are not considered a weight gain pill and are marketed as a muscle recovery and muscle building product, I think you will have far better results consuming supplements like this than CB-1 weight gain pills.
I recently started taking Beef Carnivor Aminos by Muscle Meds, which are loaded with muscle building BCAA’s, L glutamine, non-essential amino acids and even contain 300 grams of fat free protein in the entire bottle. This product only cost me about 20 dollars. I know the science behind BCAA, L glutamine and other amino acids and have concrete proof that they will help me recover and build muscle. If you want to buy a weight gain pill that works all you really need is some pill that contains BCAA, L glutamine, and other non-essential amino acids. These pills will help you recover faster, increase your anabolic output and help you pack on lean muscle mass.
